On the liking of books

Seems like I can't stay away from this blog!! Sim, welcome back to the blogsphere!! Haha I will visit your blog regularly for more exciting updates.

I was attempting to reign in my blogging and concentrate on the story I was working on, but I am just an easily distracted person. Well, if that's the way it is , that's the way it is.

End of the Berkeley extension writing classes, and am aching for more. I told Lee, I wish he loved to read and write too, but he just groaned a little. I always crave to talk to someone about writing and reading.. But I've learnt my lesson: everytime I try to talk to Lee about reading/writing, we almost inevitably go into an argument. The same is true when we discuss China... It's crazy, I don't even understand why I feel an obligation to defend China--it's not like it's my country. It's like a complex in our relationship. So whenever the topic crops up at night, we now tactfully steer away to other subject matters.

So just random updates really. My writing instructor said on the last lesson: We've got to make writing an addiction. She can't be more right. But I'm already addicted. Reading Harry Mulisch's The Assault. Excellent excellent read. I showed the book to my classmate---a rather annoying but rather adorable/funny guy, but he didn't like it. That just made me realize. It is indeed a rare to find someone who can understand another person's aesthetics. Som rare partnership like Virginia Woolf and Leonard Woolf's relationship is like a god-given gift. I used to think that it is something I want in a relationship. But now, I've realized, it's not something to ask for. It's given. I should stop being such a pighead and appreciate my lot. Lee is not all bad. In fact, he's pretty good. I just wish he liked books.
