Things I must do when I'm back in S'pore

1) Bask in deadly UV rays
2) Sweat buckets
3) eat at the sticky hawker centres (drink sugar cane)
4) Ban mian
5)visit old friend : Kenny Rogers
6)Finally go clubbing with AH gang (after talking and talking and talking abt it) maybe I'll be too old by then.. nvm we can always head to the elder clubs with oldies music and do line dancing
7)walk around with my toes sticking out (gosh I miss sandals)
8)play with stray cats (i'm so deprived of that right now)
9) walk all the way to the beach
10)Wear short sleeves, baggy ugly tees and shorts

Hey guys, apologies. You know blog really is a luxury for unemployed, idle people and students during exam periods. OK I am defnitely being unfair, there are people who blog for a living (what lucky freaks) but frankly, I get busy and this lays at the back of my mind and no updates what-so-ever even though I am constantly tempted to write on my blog. Sorry.. point proven, no matter how attractive our cyber-personalities and online existence is, it can only be second place to the concrete reality. Life--the constant bitch always takes precedence over the create-yourself-however-you-want-to place of make believe on cyberland.

Life is defnitely strange in new lands. I don't know if I am becoming insensitized (if there is such a word) of weird happenings, because everything is constantly new and there is just a barrage of strange things. It is called the constant traveller--that's why travelling can be so addictive it is like putting commonsense on hold. BUt oh well, I am waitng for the traveller feeling to wear off and double serving of home sickness to arrive on the scene.

Bus rides--still nightmarish. Or completely absurd. Recently,I have been a crazy bus ride, a strange Asian who thinks he is the announcer and shouts out all the bus stop names, an anal bus driver who refuses to drive until people sneaking up the backdoors go to the front and pay their fares, a drunk woman (the type typical called white trash--very politically incorrect) who insists on arguing with the driver, which escalated into a horrible shoutig match with the Asian joining in, and a sudden old man contributing lots of vulgarities. All very random and completely crazy. To top it all up, after all that mess, a woman boards the bus and start giving out free t-shirts to the driver. All in 20 minutes, intense. I was trying my hardest not ot laugh. Very inappropriate, but probably the only sensible response.

Yesterday was the St-Patrick's day, there was a huge parade. Lots of people in green, funny top hats, Irish acessories, and drunks all over the street. Lots of partying which, did not involve me. The road was blocked, traffic was mad. And today, the very next day, the same street is taken over by anti-war protests. And the strange thing is they seem to be identical. Just different banners. Still alot of curious parade/protest watchers. I don't know, sometimes, protests are just so superficial. Totally powerless in my opinion, but a vent for people who wants to make some noise. I even question how much these people really do knw about the war, how much do they really care.

I know that's the cycnical side of me speaking, but if you saw the protest, you would think exactly the same. Does it surprise you if I tell you that loud marches and protests with colorful banners here are as effective as quiet grumbles in Singapore. Both are equally ineffective. Afterall, politics, no matter what guise it falls under is still a monopoly by few players. Yeah yeah, people have a voice too, I know I have heard this enough. Yeah they do have a voice and they use it to make a lot of noise for those few ears which always choose to remain deaf, or pretend to will these noises away.

Ears and Mouths. scary. Can you imagine if we were a race all mouths? I love my voice, and songs, but sometimes people here just talk too much. (And I am not the first person to say this)...

Happy these days
but still there are still those PMS-ing
days
when I see the little red swells on my chin
looking for pus
sick
of work
play video games till I drop

These days, news are like re-runs of dumb sitcoms
Bush's face yet again
like a recurrent
bad dream
news headlines
seem to be reused again and again.

some days ago--a red bra flopped on stage at the theatre
where I work
that was the most refreshing happening in days

Politicians here are like cells under microscopes
poked and probed
till they are paper thin
two dimensional
and all surface
worse than paparazzi
on celebrities' tails
they constantly find their ends on fire

I missed 3 earthquakes
slept two away
and lost one because I'm too far away
Darn! why does all excitement
happens when I'm not around.

Randomly

THere are lots of pretty yellow flowers in my backyard right now.
Cheerios
Yellow seems to be the color on my mind recently
flowers
fruits
my scarf
jaundiced babies
my own skin
I miss green.

I saw a woman crying on the bus today
Yesterday, my sis told me about a wailing woman
in a wheelchair
driving around
crying at the top of her voice
Is she crazy or perhaps
grieving
for some inexplixable
loss?
A lost son
lost lover
or lost sanity.
Beautiful strange strangers
private jokes
and stories
can't
escape my curious eyes
and probing mind
I write their stories
imagine their motivations
Strange--
my new favorite word
